The Republican National Committee announced Friday that it raised $39 million in the first three months of 2018, including a record $13.8 million haul in March as the party gears up for the midterm elections in November.
The March total is a record for the month in a non-presidential year, which bumps the committee’s cash on hand to $42.9 million at the end of the first quarter. The party also reported no debt.
“Another month of record-breaking fundraising confirms what many in the mainstream media are ignoring: Americans are doing better under Republican leadership,” said Ronna McDaniel, the party’s chairwoman, in a statement. “Our country has more jobs, a growing economy, and higher wages, thanks to President Trump and Republicans in Congress.”
“With our strong grassroots support, we will continue to work with the President and Republicans in Congress to build upon these achievements,” she added.
Overall, the RNC has raised $171.6 million in the 2018 campaign cycle, where it is expected to pour money into Senate contests against Democratic incumbents and on behalf of Republican House members as Democrats look to retake the chamber in November.
Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee has not released its fundraising for March yet. At the end of February, the party had $10 million in the bank and more than $6 million in debt.
Democrats, however, saw strong fundraising for their congressional candidates. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised $14.3 million in March, outpacing the National Republican Congressional Committee’s $10.5 million.
