Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was a guest on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah Wednesday, where the host challenged the presidential candidate to a drink every time they discussed the issues of drugs, the economy, and war in the Middle East.

On the issue of drugs, Paul said the he would have a federal decriminalization of marijuana, and the states could decide how best to regulate the drug.

Noah, in order to placate his liberal audience, had to bring the issue of states rights back to racism and homophobia. Paul challenged him on the issue stating that certain rights superseded states rights — like the 14th Amendment for example.

When discussing gun control, the Kentucky senator said the term gun control made him nervous.

“I worry about it, because the language ‘gun control’ sounds like you’re going to tell me what do if I can buy a gun or own a gun,” the senator said. “I think the ownership of guns with the Second Amendment is a guarantee as important as any of the rest of the bill of rights.”

The host asked if he’d be willing to change the Constitution to alter gun rights.

Paul challenged the premise of the question that “people who are going to commit crimes care about fines or will obey the law.”

Noah pushed the question to asking why Americans need so many guns. Paul spoke slowly so that the host could understand him and explained that weapons deters crime, and are used as a hobby and for hunting.

By the end, Paul had agreed to some positions in order to play against the host and audience, but it was Noah who was slurring his words.

Paul could hold his positions and his liquor.
