Restless nights often negate counting calories and working out, said Baltimore County. psychiatrist Dr. Carol Watkins. “Stress hormones increase when you haven?t slept and make it difficult to lose weight because those hormones cause our bodies to store fat.”
People should carefully follow their sleep cycles , especially if they are taking medications, according to Watkins. “For example, stimulants prescribed for [Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder] have side effects that cause patients to have trouble falling asleep. You can get away with sleeping less [on these drugs] which makes you more crabby, and the medicine does not work as well.”
