The District is on track to recover its goal of $6 million in lost revenue through its amnestry program for forgetful parkers. The city Department of Motor Vehicles said on Friday it has received more than $976,000 during the month of August in revenue from 17,950 delinquent parking tickets.

Officials have said they hope to recover $6 million during the 6-month amnesty period for outstanding parking tickets. From Aug. 1 through Jan 27, those with unpaid parking tickets issued prior to Jan. 1, 2010, can make their payments without paying the late fees. The District has roughly $300 million in outstanding tickets, including the late fees.
