The public “spat” between Will Ferrell, who looks an awful lot like Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and Chad Smith, who looks an awful lot like Will Ferrell, has at last reached its conclusion.
The two men appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” Thursday to settle a faux dispute that began in February when Ferrell told the Internet that “there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith.” Smith responded with a request for a drum battle, and Ferrell agreed for charitable purposes, leading to last night.
Ferrell and Smith sat at adjacent drum sets at the front of “The Tonight Show” music stage — naturally, dressed the same — and exchanged solos. The comedian held his own, but Smith, taking a walk through the park, clearly one-upped him. (That didn’t stop Ferrell from making a crack about this being something out of the “Lukewarm Chili Peppers.”)
The showdown seemed to reach its end when Smith rose from his stool and spiked one of his sticks, but when Ferrell next unveiled a cowbell, the fun was just getting started.
Ferrell’s charity of choice for the duel was Cancer for College.
