Bernie Sanders’ campaign manager Jeff Weaver thinks Hillary Clinton should select Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren as her running mate.
Weaver told CNN he did not know who the Vermont senator would want to see alongside Clinton on the Democratic ticket in the fall, but would likely push for the “most progressive person possible.” Weaver said he personally thinks Warren would make an excellent choice for Clinton.
“I think Elizabeth Warren would be a good pick for the secretary,” Weaver said Tuesday. “I think having two women on the ticket would really energize the country in a new way, would create a lot of excitement and energy, I think, at the grassroots.”
Sanders endorsed Clinton on Tuesday and pledged to do “everything I can to make certain she will be the next President of the United States.”
Weaver said voters across the country should expect to see Sanders campaigning from coast-to-coast. He also warned Sanders supporters thinking of defecting to the GOP about the “disaster” that would happen if Donald Trump were elected president.
“The point of this campaign of Bernie Sanders was about a movement to advance a progressive vision for America, to transform America,” Weaver said. “And electing Donald Trump would move that backwards. Electing Hillary Clinton will at least move the ball forward and help us toward some of those goals.”
Sanders campaigned with Clinton in New Hampshire on Tuesday ahead of the Democratic convention later this month. Weaver said viewers should expect to see Sanders speak at the convention, but he did not say when, and said the schedule was still being developed.
