The Boy Mayor
While Mayor Adrian Fenty’s speech on education at the National Press Club on Wednesday was well-received, the deck was stacked slightly in his favor. On the dais with him were his wife, Michelle, and his parents, Jan and Phil.

Before beginning, he said CBN News reporter Melissa Charbonneau “told me I’m the only speaker she can think of who has had his parents with him.”
Which wasn’t entirely true but close enough. (In the past year, Sen. Joe Biden had his mom, Catherine, present, and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger had his in-laws, Sargent and Eunice Shriver, on the dais.) Fenty even invited the media to use his mother as a source, assuring them that “she won’t be biased.”
“I’ve been given permission,” she joked later.
In closing, Press Club President Jerry Zremski asked Fenty how he avoided the dreaded affliction known as “BlackBerry thumb,” given his well-known penchant for the electronic devices. The key, according to Fenty: “Use three different BlackBerries, because then you’re not using the same type, and you can cross-train.”
