Salem VA hospital to expand mental health staff

SALEM, Va. (AP) — The Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center is expanding its mental health staff as part of a national effort to improve such services for veterans.

The hospital plans to hire 11 clinicians and two support staff. It currently employs 220 mental health personnel.

In April the Department of Veterans Affairs said it would hire 1,900 mental health workers nationwide.

A Salem VA spokeswoman tells The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/K5t3aP ) that the additional staff will help to expand programs and to improve the timeliness of seeing patients.
