The Biden administration has no answers to the challenges the country is facing, so administration officials have resorted to treating voters like they are stupid.
On Tuesday, President Joe Biden announced that “we’re celebrating” the signing of the Inflation Reduction Act, the climate bill that Democrats have pretended will ease inflation. Meanwhile, inflation for the 12 months ending in August sits at 8.3%, virtually the same as the July figure of 8.5%. Food prices are up 11% over the last 12 months. Biden’s “celebration” of beating inflation took place while the stock market hit a two-year low after the worse-than-expected inflation report.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris claimed during an appearance on Meet the Press that “we have a secure border.” As my colleague Conn Carroll wrote, “Just this year, over 500,000 migrants have successfully crossed the border illegally without being caught by the Border Patrol. Deaths are at an all-time high. Cartels are making over a billion dollars a year smuggling migrants across the border.”
Harris’s claim that the border is secure is not just spin or a difference of opinion — it is an outright falsehood.
According to Harris, the border is secure, but White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre disagrees. She claims that the Biden administration is “doing a lot more” to secure the border than the Trump administration did and that they “could be doing a lot more if Republicans would stop their obstruction.”

Does anyone actually believe this? That Biden, who ended the “Remain in Mexico” policy and ceased Title 42, is tougher on illegal immigration than former President Donald Trump? Are we supposed to believe that it is Republicans who are fighting tooth and nail to allow illegal immigrants into the country, to the point that they are “obstructing” Biden’s efforts to keep the border secure?
Even if we are supposed to believe all of that, the only possible conclusion is that Biden is the most incompetent border hawk of all time. Under Trump, there were 81,777 border encounters in July 2019 and 40,929 in July 2020. Under Biden, there were 213,593 in July 2021 and 199,976 in July 2022. There is no month where Biden saw fewer border crossings compared to Trump in 2019 or 2020.
No one believes that Biden and the Democratic Party care about securing the border, or that they have solved the border crisis, or that they have fixed inflation. People can see the effects of inflation in their grocery bills. They can also see Biden boasting about the trillions that Democrats have spent in the last two years, leading in a straight line to inflation. They can also see Biden lifting border restrictions while Democrats run sanctuary cities, encouraging illegal immigrants to cross the border.
Voters aren’t stupid, but the Biden administration has to pretend they are because it has no other pitch to make. Biden’s presidency has been a train wreck, and the best spin it can offer is to pretend that the issues voters care about don’t exist at all.
Meanwhile, Republicans are picking up steam as the midterm elections approach, and, much like illegal immigrants crossing the border, Biden has no plan to stop them.
