Dianne Feinstein released from hospital, hopes to return to Senate ‘as soon as possible’

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has been released from the hospital after being admitted last week with a severe case of shingles.

“I want to thank everyone for the well wishes and the hospital staff for providing excellent care. I’m recovering at home now while I continue receiving treatment and look forward to returning to the Senate as soon as possible,” she said in a statement Tuesday.

DIANNE FEINSTEIN’S UNCEREMONIOUS EXIT FROM CONGRESS

Feinstein, 89, recently announced that she would retire at the end of her term in 2024. She is one of two Democratic senators missing votes this week after Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for severe depression. Feinstein received care in San Francisco.

Their absences leave the Senate with a 49-49 partisan split until one of them returns.

Fetterman was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 15 and will keep receiving treatment for the foreseeable future. An aide released pictures of him working on railroad legislation while in the hospital on Monday and said the senator is “well on his way to recovery.”

News of Feinstein’s retirement opened what will be a crowded primary field for her seat. Even before she announced she would not run for reelection, Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Katie Porter (D-CA) launched bids for the 2024 Senate contest. Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) has since thrown her name into the race. California’s jungle primary system means the race will likely be a brutal, Democrat-on-Democrat contest.
