Michael Cohen, a former lawyer for Donald Trump who testified in front of the Manhattan grand jury that indicted the former president, said, “No one is above the law.”
In a statement released Thursday, shortly after the grand jury indicted Trump, Cohen said the grand jury’s decision was “just the beginning.”

“Now that the charges have been filed, it is better for the case to let the indictment speak for itself. The two things I wish to say at this time is that accountability matters and I stand by my testimony and the evidence I have provided,” Cohen said.

The indictment against Trump stems from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation into the former president’s alleged involvement in making hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign, according to his legal counsel.
Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to charges pertaining to the alleged payment to Daniels, also known as Stephanie Gregory Clifford. Cohen paid Daniels $130,000 in 2016 in exchange for her signing a nondisclosure agreement about an alleged affair she had with Trump about a decade prior.
Daniels’s attorney, Clark Brewster, tweeted that “the indictment of Donald Trump is no cause for joy. The hard work and conscientiousness of the grand jurors must be respected. Now let truth and justice prevail. No one is above the law.”
In a response to Brewster’s comment, Daniels simply wrote, “Thank you.”

The grand jury’s decision, which was not expected to be handed down for another few weeks, comes after Trump predicted earlier this month that he would be arrested “on Tuesday of next week.” Trump was not arrested at that time.
However, his attorney Joe Tacopina said he expects the former president to surrender to the Manhattan DA’s office early next week. Trump is also expected to be arraigned next week, according to NBC News.
