Sen. Bernie Sanders got praise from an unlikely source Monday: the National Rifle Association.
The NRA tweeted praise of Sanders’ comments on guns during Sunday night’s Democratic debate.
“Sen. Sanders was spot-on in his comments about gun manufacturer liability/PLCAA,” the NRA tweeted Monday morning. The tweet included a graphic of the Democratic presidential candidate’s quote that read: “What you’re really talking about is ending gun manufacturing in America. I don’t agree with that.”

The NRA also tweeted that the Vermont senator “pushed back” against rival Hillary Clinton’s “lies on gun manufacturer liability.”
In Sunday night’s debate, Clinton hit Sanders for his voting record on gun legislation, but Sanders fired back that Clinton’s plan to allow lawsuits against the industry might eradicate the industry entirely.
“If you go to a gun store and you legally purchase a gun and then three days later you go out and you start killing people, is the point of this lawsuit to hold the gun shop owner or the manufacturer of that gun liable?” Sanders asked. “If that is the point I have to tell you I have to disagree.”
“What you’re really talking about is ending gun manufacturing in America. I don’t agree with that,” he added.
Ian Sams, a Clinton staffer, tweeted in response Monday that the NRA is now joining Republican super PACS, Karl Rove and the Republican National Committee in “coming to Bernie Sanders’ side.”
