Women don’t stop loving jewels just because there’s a recession, but getting to dress yourself in Bulgari and give to charity can definitely loosen any feelings of guilt.
Perhaps that’s why so many women — and the men who wanted to spoil them — turned out Tuesday evening to Bulgari in Chevy Chase for a charity event supporting Save the Children’s new campaign.
Iced-out herself was hostess Ali Wentworth, who along with her husband (and no, don’t worry, George Stephanopoulos wasn’t sporting any bling) has been a big supporter of the non-profit organization. And although she may have been wearing a 10-carat blue topaz ring on loan to her from the store, the real attention that evening was on another ring — Bulgari’s new silver band which gives a portions of its sales to the organization’s Rewrite the Future campaign.
Stephanopoulos — who arrived a bit late because of a breaking news story, but just in time to catch Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., on her way out — explained it was his time covering Sudan that first introduced him to the group.
“Ever since that trip, I knew I wanted to give back,” he told the crowd, who sipped champagne and stared lustfully at the store’s goodies.
Also on hand to try on the new ring: CEO of Bulgari North America Francois Kress, celebrity hairstylist Erwin Gomez and Vanity Fair Associate Publisher Jason Wagenheim, whose magazine helped sponsor the event.
