Singer, actor and activist Mandy Moore, who has become something of a regular fixture in D.C., was in town this week to speak at a panel on engaging new people on issues in the developing world, and to take meetings with members of Congress. Moore was joined by Barbara Bush (the younger), Kay Warren of Saddleback Church and former Rep. Jim Kolbe.
Moore assures Yeas & Nays that it wasn’t awkward being on a panel with Warren, despite Warren’s position with one of the nation’s largest evangelical churches and Moore’s performance poking fun at Christians in “Saved!”
“She mentioned ‘A Walk to Remember’ as I was leaving,” Moore said. No hard feelings over Moore’s famous “I am filled with Christ’s love!” tantrum from the film, apparently.
Moore took meetings with Reps. Harold Rogers, Frank Wolf and Kevin McCarthy, who advised the starlet to reach out to freshman members of Congress with her experiences working in the developing world. (She has been advocating for foreign aid and health issues in Africa since 2009.) Moore said she enjoys being on the Hill.
“I find it interesting,” she said. “It brings me back to being in school again.” Because the members are so cliquey and dramatic? No. “Just thinking back to learning about government,” Moore diplomatically clarified.
