Colorado newspaper: Fiorina would ‘school’ Hillary in debate

The editorial board for the the Gazette, the second-most circulated newspaper in Colorado, has given Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina a much-needed boost.

Analyzing the Western Conservative Summit in Denver, Colo., over the weekend, where Fiorina and other Republican White House hopefuls gave speeches, the Gazette said that the former Hewlett-Packard CEO “stole the show.”

“Fiorina would school Hillary Clinton in public speaking and debate,” wrote the paper’s right-leaning editorial board on Sunday. “She speaks with exceptional knowledge and sophistication about foreign and domestic policy, economics, business and failed policies of the left. Her personal story is second to none, as a file clerk who rose through the ranks to run one of the world’s largest corporations.”

The Gazette added, however, that it is “hard to imagine” Americans electing Fiorina, who has never held public office.

Even so, Fiorina has positioned herself as the anti-Hillary Clinton, who is the Democratic Party’s front runner. And Fiorina is hoping to raise her profile ahead of the first Republican primary debate on Aug. 11, which will be limited to the 10 candidates who poll highest in an average of national surveys.

A major newspaper in a swing state that endorses Fiorina’s debate skills could have sway over the opinions of many voters, potentially securing her a spot on the stage.
