‘Roseanne’ ratings stay strong in second week of revival

Many of the 25 million viewers who tuned into the “Roseanne” premiere last week seem to have liked what they saw enough to come back for more.

In week two, the show managed to pull more than 15 million viewers and put up a 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Per Deadline’s report:

The ratings took the inevitable dip but remained impressive — 15.1 million viewers and a 3.9 rating among adults 18-49 in the fast nationals at 8 PM last night. Vs. the 8-8:30 PM part of the double premiere episode last week (17.7 million, 4.9/21), Roseanne retained 84% of the audience and 80% of the adults 18-49 rating. It was once again the top program of the night by a mile in both adults 18-49 and total viewers.

The sitcom’s strong retention rate comes on the heels of its record-setting total viewership adjustment this weekend. As Deadline reported, “After three days of delayed viewing, the average viewership for the Roseanne premiere jumped to 25.04 million total viewers.” Known as the Live+3 rating, that number marked an increase of 6.6 million viewers from the Live+Same Day rating, which put average viewership at an already staggering 18.45 million. The “Will & Grace” reboot managed to retain 70 percent of its Week 1 viewers last September.

The “Roseanne” premiere’s monster ratings have already reverberated across the media, but if it proves to have staying power, the show will become a force in entertainment and politics.
