Obama huddles with Dems ahead of retreat

House and Senate Democratic leaders met with President Obama in the White House Tuesday to discuss “legislative priorities” ahead of a Democratic retreat that begins on Wednesday.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, of California, and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, of Nevada, huddled with Obama on the second day Congress remained closed due to record snowfall in Washington, D.C., over the weekend.

Obama, Reid and Pelosi said they discussed areas where Republicans and Democrats could work together to pass legislation, such as federal spending, criminal justice reform and resolving the fiscal crisis in bankrupt Puerto Rico.

“The president and leaders agreed that there is important business to get done this year, and the president looks forward to discussing these priorities with House Democrats at the Democratic Issues Conference on Thursday, and to working with the Democratic leaders in the months ahead to deliver results to the American people,” said Obama’s deputy press secretary, Jen Friedman.

House Democrats decamp to Baltimore tomorrow for their annual issues retreat. President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will arrive Thursday to address the Democrats.
