The turtle shells — aka “terraprint” — on the new white Maryland football helmet could be cool. They could be weird. They’re certainly different. As for the 832 combinations (OK, 32) of black, white, red, and gold for the pants, shirts and helmets that are part of their newly unveiled uniforms will keep the equipment guys busy, er, confused.
Good or bad, thanks to Kevin Plank and Under Armour, Maryland is on its way to becoming the East Coast version of Nike and Phil Knight-backed Oregon, which can always be relied upon for the most interesting uniforms in college football. There have been a few, ahem, quacks along the way, but the longer Nike has been at it, the better the Ducks have looked.

The Terps, if you can still remember the old helmets, aren’t quite there yet. But given the sheer amount of variations available, there’s got to be a sleek combination in there somewhere. (But it’s probably not gold shirt, red pants and black helmet.)
