Florida nurse believed to have died of coronavirus died of kidney infection, autopsy reveals

A Florida woman whose husband said he believed she died of the coronavirus actually succumbed to a kidney infection, according to a new report.

Danielle DiCenso, 33, died from “complications of acute pyelonephritis,” according to a Palm Beach County Medical examiner report obtained by CBS12 News.

DiCenso was a nurse at a local hospital. Her husband told the station in April that she was not given proper personal protective equipment as she treated patients with the coronavirus during the pandemic’s initial surge and that he believed she was exposed to the virus while at work.

“It looked like the oxygen was just taken out of her,” David DiCenso said of watching his wife get sick.

Danielle DiCenso was tested for the virus before she died, the station reported, but her result came back inconclusive. The nurse was quarantining at her home when she died in her sleep overnight, her husband said.

Similar to those of the coronavirus, symptoms of kidney infection include fever, chills, and body aches, according to the Mayo Clinic.

There have been more than 4.6 million cases of the coronavirus reported in the United States. More than 155,000 in the U.S. have died from the resulting disease.

Public health officials, state government officials, and political pundits have questioned the veracity of coronavirus cases and death counts in communities across the country.
