Canadian officials expressed their support for U.S. Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft after she received a death threat and suspicious package in the mail at her Ottawa office.
The package, which contained white powder, was found by a mailroom employee on Thursday at the U.S. diplomat’s residence, according to Bloomberg.
While police determined the powder was not harmful, the package did contain a letter threatening to kill Craft, President Trump, and members of the Trump family. Officials could not dive into the details of the letter at this time.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office said he called Craft on Friday to check up on her following the incident, and Chrystia Freeland, the minister of foreign affairs, tweeted her support for the diplomat.
“I also expressed my support for the Ambassador following the wholly unacceptable threat made against her,” Freeland wrote. “She does an essential and difficult job and Canada respects her service.”

This incident comes on the heels of a tense trade dispute between the U.S. and Canada over Trump’s newly implemented tariffs on Canada as well Mexico and members of the European Union.
