Donald Trump Jr. hit back at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for saying she was “praying” for his father.
“I don’t think the party of infanticide is exactly praying for anyone,” Trump Jr. told “Fox and Friends” on Thursday.
Following a dramatic and short-lived meeting in the White House on Wednesday between President Trump and Democratic congressional leadership over infrastructure spending, Pelosi said: “I pray for the president of the United States. And I pray for the United States of America.”
Trump abruptly ended the meeting less than five minutes in, claiming he could not work with Democrats on a plan for enhancing the country’s roads and bridges in the midst of congressional investigations into his 2016 campaign, finances, and personal life.
The comments from Trump Jr., a father of five, came after Democrats warned that Republicans and Trump-appointed conservative judges intend to scale down abortion rights in America.
In Alabama, a new state law virtually outlaws all abortions within state lines, including in instances of rape or incest, and would send doctors who perform the procedure to jail for up to 99 years.
That bill’s architects say it was created with the intention of facing legal challenges and eventually ending up before the Supreme Court. Similarly restrictive abortion bills have been passed or are being considered in other states such as Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
Several Democratic candidates for president in 2020 have seized on the news, claiming the ideological Right is waging a war on women and reproductive health.
Republicans have pointed to more relaxed abortion laws in states such as New York and controversial comments such as those made by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, as an example of the party’s immorality.
“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” Northam said this year. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
The president’s eldest son said: “It’s just a consummate attack on American values. … This election — 2020 — it’s about communism versus freedom. You can choose.”
