Brian Williams may be coming back to prime-time TV

Brian Williams may be getting a second chance at prime-time network television.

The former “NBC Nightly News” host is expected to host an 11 p.m. program on MSNBC starting Labor Day and ending after the election, multiple sources reported Monday night.

MSNBC, a sister company to NBC, has yet to formally announce the scheduling change. The 30-minute show would provide an overview of the day’s top stories.

Williams has been with MSNBC since 1996, when the cable news station first launched. He later signed on with NBC and oversaw the evening news for more than a decade. But his reign came to an early end last year when he was caught having exaggerated war stories on the program.

Williams was suspended from the network for six month and later given a job as MSNBC’s chief breaking news anchor. This new position would give him a two-month trial as a prime-time host while minimizing the long-term risks the network could face.
