The tipster who helped police catch the East Coast rapist suspect is getting a cash reward.
Aaron H. Thomas was arrested in New Haven, Conn., in March in connection with the attacks — which took place in Maryland, Virginia, Rhode Island and Connecticut — after a tipster called Prince George’s County Crime Solvers.
Now, that person will receive cash rewards from Prince George’s County Crime Solvers, Fairfax County Crime Solvers and Prince William County Crime Solvers, police said Tuesday. Fairfax and Prince William County Crime Solvers will give the tipster $1,000 each, said Officer Don Gotthardt, a Fairfax County police spokesman. The reward amount hasn’t been set yet in Prince George’s.
Police say the East Coast Rapist assaulted 17 women in Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut and Rhode Island, beginning in 1997. So far, Thomas has been charged in New Haven, Conn., as well as in Loudoun and Prince William counties in Virginia.
Crime Solvers is a nonprofit that works with police to give people an anonymous way to report information about crime.
