‘World’s Largest Golf Outing’ to benefit Wounded Warrior Project

Vienna-based Billy Casper Golf hopes to enter the Guinness Book of World Records on Thursday, Aug. 18, when more than 80 of its courses in 24 states host the “World’s Largest Golf Outing,” benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.

Ten Washington-area courses will participate. The outing is open to players of all levels, with 1 p.m. shotgun start. The courses are Compass Pointe (Pasadena), Eisenhower (Crownsville), P.B. Dye (Ijamsville), 1757 (Dulles), The Ospreys (Woodbridge), Virginia Oaks (Gainesville), Forest Greens (Triangle), Generals Ridge (Manassas Park), Prince William (Nokesville), and Reston National.

BCG expects to draw 5,000 players for the event, with wounded veterans participating at select locations. The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit that honors and aids injured servicemen and women.

“Our hats off to Billy Casper Golf for pioneering this very creative program,” said Adam Silva, Chief Development Officer of the WWP in a release. “Our goal is to provide unique programs and services to our wounded warriors and their families.”

A USGA handicap is not required for the four-person scramble format. Rates vary depending on the course. Included are range balls, box lunch, on-course contests, and awards reception. Register at www.worldslargestgolfouting.com.
