Convicted murderer dead by apparent suicide in North Dakota prison


Convicted murderer Chad Isaak died Sunday evening after an apparent suicide at North Dakota State Penitentiary in Bismarck.

The state highway patrol said it responded to a report of a resident at the prison harming themselves, according to a press release Monday. Isaak, 48, was pronounced dead at the hospital 40 minutes after the highway patrol received the initial call.

Isaak was convicted of murdering, stabbing, and shooting four employees from the RJR Maintenance and Management in Mandan, North Dakota, in 2019 during a trial in August 2021. Isaak was sentenced to four life sentences without the possibility of parole in December 2021.

Isaak appealed the ruling and maintained his innocence throughout the trial, speaking only during the sentencing hearing.

“I can honestly tell you I am not a murderer,” Isaak said in court in December.

Authorities said they were still investigating the death in conjunction with the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
