MSNBC’s chief conspiracist Joy Reid ties Jeffrey Epstein’s death to Trump and William Barr

It’s as if MSNBC’s Joy Reid saw President Trump share a conspiracy theory this weekend and thought, “I want to do that, too!”

Convicted sex offender Jeffery Epstein was found dead Saturday morning in his jail cell in New York. For whatever reason, he had reportedly been taken off suicide watch, despite that he had already tried to kill himself while in custody. Considering the nature of the allegations leveled against Epstein, and his connections to powerful and wealthy individuals, his untimely death has generated a great deal of speculation, including whispers of foul play. The president himself re-tweeted a social media user who accused the Clintons of orchestrating Epstein’s death.

Not to be outdone, Reid did her best this weekend to get in on the conspiracy mongering, accusing the White House and the Justice Department of being involved somehow in the accused child sex trafficker’s alleged suicide.

“This is somebody who not only is high-profile, who not only knew a lot of high-profile people, whose papers just came out of court just to let out of some of the documents related to his cases that name high-profile people, who is friends with the current president of the United States, who flew a previous president of the United States around on his plane,” she said in reference to the fact that former President Bill Clinton was a frequent guest on Epstein’s private plane.

“This is on the same level of a Bill Cosby. This is a famous person who’s now in prison. He knows a lot about a lot of people,” Reid added this weekend in a segment flagged first by the Washington Free Beacon. “His only out at this point would to talk about those people. So, he’s in this very vulnerable situation.”

Now seems like a good time to remind you that Reid is the same MSNBC personality who once alleged that time-traveling cybercriminals hacked into her long-defunct blog, the Wayback Machine Internet Archive, and possibly the Library of Congress, to make it appear as if she once authored homophobic articles.

She continued, driving home her “case” for Epstein dying at the hands of the current administration.

“This Department of Justice does not exactly inspire confidence. Let’s just be blunt. William Barr’s Justice Department is not one you can readily simply rely upon and feel confident in,” she said. “What do we make of all of this now that in this federal facility this person was allowed to be alone long enough to either harm himself or be killed by some – we don’t know what happened. We just don’t know.”

You better believe Reid also tied Epstein’s death back to Trump, who can be seen in photos and footage taken over the years partying with the now-dead pervert.

“Donald Trump’s name comes up whenever Jeffrey Epstein’s name comes up and other people, too. He’s no longer a threat to those people because he can’t talk about them anymore,” Reid said. “I think one of the reasons people feel a lot of skepticism here is he’s deprived these girls of justice, young women of justice, but he now goes silent.”

Elsewhere at the very sane cable news network, Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough suggested the Russians did in Epstein.

“A guy who had information that would have destroyed rich and powerful men’s lives ends up dead in his jail cell. How predictably…Russian,” he tweeted this weekend.

The Epstein-related conspiracies will no doubt continue on cable news for weeks to come, and they will undoubtedly be particularly crazy in right-leaning newsrooms. Just remember, though, MSNBC positions itself as better than all of that.

It clearly is not.
