Trump ridicules ABC News after network broadcasts false Manafort graphic

President Trump chastised ABC News after it mistakenly aired a graphic that falsely claimed his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

“Look what Fake ABC News put out. I guess they had it prepared from the 13 Angry Democrats leading the Witch Hunt! #StopTheBias,” Trump tweeted Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, ABC News ran a graphic during a special report claiming “Manafort pleads guilty to 5 charges of manslaughter.”

The network apologized for the error and said it is investigating “how incorrect information” was in its system.

“We apologize to our viewers and to Mr. Manafort,” ABC News said. “There simply is no excuse for this sort of mistake.”

Manafort is not facing any manslaughter charges. He was indicted as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Trump repeatedly refers to the investigation as a “witch hunt” and claims the investigators who make up Mueller’s team are “angry Democrats,” a reference to those who are registered Democrats or who donated to Democratic candidates.

Mueller himself is a Republican.

Manafort is facing charges of making false statements, money laundering, tax evasion, conspiracy, bank fraud, witness tampering and failure to register as a foreign agent. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
