Richard Grenell, a Fox News contributor and media critic, claimed on Thursday that Donna Brazile, a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, has accepted the position to chair the Clinton Foundation. But he got the wrong Donna.
“Wrong Donna,” Brazile said in an email to the Washington Examiner media desk. “It’s Donna Shalala.”
Shalala served as the secretary of Health and Human Services under then-president Bill Clinton. The news that she would be taking the helm of the Clinton Foundation was reported in early May by other media outlets. She takes over in June, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy.
“An inside source tells me that Donna Brazile is in discussions to take over as head of Clinton Foundation,” Grenell had written in an erroneous Twitter message. About two hours later, Grenell wrote on Twitter, “My inside source says she’s accepted the job as head of the Clinton Foundation.”
Grenell did not return a request for comment.
Aside from her role at the DNC, Brazile is also a contributor to both CNN and ABC News, and she sits on the board of the Clinton Foundation. She said in an appearance on CNN Thursday that she’s “a proud supporter of the Clinton Foundation.”
The Clinton Foundation was founded by former president Clinton, whose wife Hillary is currently seeking the Democratic presidential nomination. The foundation became a point of controversy recently after accusations and reports that it may have served as a front to increase the wealth and influence of the Clintons.
A spokesperson for the Foundation also did not return a request for comment.
