CNN’s chief White House correspondent, a man by the name of Jim Acosta, is incapable of restraining himself from expanding the role of a reporter into the role of a commentator, even when it comes to the Trump White House’s least offensive conduct.
The celebrated sock photographer unloaded on Trump’s White House for taking a meeting on prison reform with Kim Kardashian on Wednesday.
“Forget about the fact that Kim Kardashian is here at the White House today, and what planet that is anything resembling normal, because it’s not,” Acosta proclaimed on air. “She shouldn’t be here talking about prison reform, it’s very nice that she is here, but that’s not a serious thing to have happen here at the White House.”
Since when is it the place of a reporter to offer their thoughts on which White House guests should be welcomed, and whether their meetings are “serious”? If the guest in question were, for instance, David Duke, Acosta’s unsolicited commentary would be more understandable. But it continues to boggle the mind that CNN, the network of apples and bananas, is okay with its chief White House correspondent, a guy who has “I believe in #realnews” in his Twitter bio, so flagrantly blurring the lines between reporting and commentating.
As for Acosta’s contention that Kardashian’s visit is not “anything resembling normal,” former President Barack Obama’s White House took meetings with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, and Bono, so the occasional celebrity meeting at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue certainly isn’t abnormal. Whether or not it’s “serious” is more debatable, but since he’s so focused on normalcy, perhaps Acosta should leave that judgment up to the commentators.
