Rick “Doc” Walker is among Washington’s most respected and versatile sports voices. The former Redskins tight end can be seen on Comcast SportsNet talking football and other sports; on MASN hosting his own show, “ProView”; doing sideline reporting during Redskins games on radio; or serving as a color analyst on the WTTG Fox 5 Redskins pregame show. But most people are familiar with Walker’s work weekdays from 2 to 4 p.m. on ESPN 980 as part of what was “The John Thompson Show.” Coach Thompson retired earlier this year, so Walker now is joined by Brian Mitchell and sports radio veteran Scott Jackson on “Inside the Locker Room.”

“B-Mitch is my little brother, and we love getting on each other and talking sports. Neither of us has any problems coming up with opinions. As for Scott Jackson, we have worked together on a number of shows on 980 AM over the years, and I love his passion and knowledge of all sports. Look, sports should be fun, and we all enjoy working together. We know sports, and we certainly enjoy talking about it every day.”
With Robert Griffin III, Bryce Harper and John Wall, is this the most exciting time to cover sports in the District?
Walker » “No. The most exciting time to cover sports in Washington was when the Redskins won Super Bowls. I am a results kind of a guy. But that said, I will say I love what the Nationals are doing. They are going old school. It’s just like the Dodgers’ way and the Orioles’ way. Develop your own stars. We are seeing the Nationals’ way, and I do think we will see a good team — not just for the short term — but they are going to be winners for the long run. As for John Wall, I like what the Wizards are building, and we will see, but they seem to be headed in the right direction. As for RGIII, well, he has great talent, and it is all about how the team works around him. I do think the Redskins are on the upswing, so we will see if that translates into wins.”
