Kresge Foundation plans $5 million Detroit effort

DETROIT (AP) — The Kresge Foundation is planning a $5 million initiative to help fund projects by nonprofits in neighborhoods across Detroit.

The three-year program announced Monday called “Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit” will award $50,000 to $150,000 to each of seven to 10 groups whose projects are shovel-ready and could transform neighborhoods.

The Troy-based Kresge Foundation also plans to give seven to 10 smaller grants to organizations with promising ideas.

Kresge Foundation President and CEO Rip Rapson says in a statement the foundation wants to “help light up the map of Detroit quickly with the reality of positive change.” He says the foundation can help nonprofits “deliver more and larger projects.”

Applications for the first round of funding are due by Dec. 2. Grant recipients will be announced by March.
