IT WAS OVER WHEN …
Kevin Millar hit his second home run of the game. Millar’s 18th longball gave the Orioles a 6-1 lead in the fifth, just two innings after his 17th put them ahead 5-0.
O’S FANS CHEERED …
Brian Roberts’ two-run double in the Orioles three-run second inning. Roberts’ league-leading 41st double plated the second and third runs of the inning.
O’S FANS JEERED …
When Texas’ Travis Metcalf hit a two-out, solo home run off Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie in the fifth inning. The harmless homer ruined Jeremy Guthrie’s shutout, and remained as the lone run the Orioles would score all night.
FANTASY STUD …
Millar drove in three runs, but it was Guthrie who dominated the box score. He went seven innings, scattering five hits, one walk and the home run, against four strikeouts. His ERA dipped to 3.26 in an efficient, 114-pitch outing.
GOOD CALL …
Using Jim Johnson in the ninth inning. Johnson needed just 11 pitches to close out the victory. Despite allowing a single, the Orioles set-up man adequately filled in for closer George Sherrill in a non-save situation.
BAD CALL …
By the Rangers, pitching to Millar and catcher Ramon Hernandez. The right-handed hitting veteran duo combined to go 4-for-9 with five RBIs and three runs scored.
IF ONLY …
Guthrie got this kind of offense earlier in the year. The Orioles put together 15 hits, and every starter had at least one hit. It could have been even more dominating: the O’s stranded 19 runners.
