New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte is now without one her senior aides after his arrest for allegedly soliciting a prostitute.
David Wihby, 61, resigned his position as Ayotte’s state director — one he had held for the past year — after he was arrested and charged with soliciting a prostitute Friday night, her office announced Saturday night.
Wihby, the number two staffer behind her chief of staff, was also an elected member of the Manchester school board, a former longtime Manchester city alderman and the former deputy commissioner and interim commissioner of the state Department of Labor.
He was arrested Friday evening in Nashua on a misdemeanor charge for solicitation of prostitution, Ayotte’s office confirmed to the Boston Globe Sunday night.
“I am shocked and deeply saddened that David Wihby, my state director and a friend for many years, has been arrested under these circumstances,” the freshman Republican senator said in a statement. “David obviously cannot continue his duties, and I have accepted his resignation. This is a very difficult time, and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”
