The SSDI average payment is $1,223.
Social Security Disability Insurance is an assistance program that gives monthly payments to eligible individuals who are not able to work due to a disability and have worked in jobs covered by the Social Security program.
Eligible recipients typically receive benefits from the program six months after getting a diagnosis for the disability that prevents the claimant from working.
Those who receive SSDI may also be eligible for the monthly Supplemental Security Income payment from the Social Security Administration. The qualifications differ between the two programs, with the SSI being more income-based.
