Jenkins hurt in Redskins loss

Rookie defensive end Jarvis Jenkins said he heard something pop in his knee when he was hit in the first quarter of Washington’s 34-31 loss to Baltimore Thursday night.

He’ll undergo an MRI Friday morning.

“I’ve never had a major injury like this so I have to make it a mental thing,” he said. “I have to keep hope and pray about it that everything will be all right.”

Jenkins was hurt on the third play of Baltimore’s second series. A Ravens blocker hit him as he moved down the line. He lay on the ground for a couple minutes and walked to the sidelines with help from his teammates, though Jenkins said after the game that he was encouraged that he walked off on his own. However, there have been times in the past when players walk off under their own power or with minimal help only to receive bad news the next day. Jenkins, though, remains positive.

“I was shuffling down the line and tried to plant and throw my guy down and I heard a pop,” said Jenkins, who had a brace on his right knee. “I was real worried because I had never experienced anything like that. It was a good sign that I got up and walked off so it shouldn’t be that bad.”
