Chris Christie: Trump told me to wear longer ties to look thinner

President Trump once advised former Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to lose weight if he wanted to get ahead in politics, according to Christie’s upcoming book.

In “Let Me Finish,” Christie writes of a dinner they had in 2005 when the then-real estate mogul and reality TV star told him, “you gotta look better to be able to win,” the Guardian reported Tuesday.

Christie said Trump brought up his weight again during the 2016 presidential campaign, when he suggested the former leader of his transition team wear longer neckties as they make men appear thinner.

Christie, now a commentator for ABC News, is also critical of White House senior adviser and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions in his book. He additionally claims he turned down offers to serve in the Trump administration as a special assistant to the president, labor secretary, homeland security secretary, and as an ambassador for the U.S. to Rome or the Vatican.

“Let Me Finish,” published by Hachette Books, is due to be released on Jan. 29.
