Caps F Eric Fehr ready to return

Welcome back, Eric Fehr. The hero of the Winter Classic hasn’t played since Jan. 14 when he rammed into teammate David Steckel during a line change and injured his right shoulder. It’s been a long, tedious eight weeks. But Fehr will be back in the lineup tonight for the Caps when the host Edmonton. He had eight goals and nine assists in 41 games before getting hurt.

“I want to get involved as quick as possible,” Fehr said. “Just getting out there and making sure you can win your battles and doing all the same things that we were doing before I was out. That’s probably what I’ll be looking to do early in the game.”

Fehr feels like he’s in better shape than when he first got hurt thanks to off-ice work with strength coach Mark Nemish and hard skates under the watchful eyes of assistant coaches Bob Woods and Dean Evason. But two months of rust is hard to shake in one game no matter how hard a player works on his conditioning.

“I’d definitely say timing would be one of the biggest issues,” Fehr said. “You can practice as much as you want, but you can’t practice game situations. So that’s something I’m going to be trying to get back as quick as possible.”
