Us Weekly made the queen of all comparisons Monday when the magazine compared Chelsea Clinton’s debut as a new mom to that of Princess Kate Middleton last year.
Under the headline, “Chelsea Clinton Makes Post-Baby Debut With Newborn Daughter Charlotte in Blue Dress,” sit two photographs for “comparison.” One shows Clinton wearing a blue dress, and the other shows Princess Kate also wearing a blue dress.
Somewhere, Miranda Priestly is saying, “groundbreaking.”
However, the magazine also finds similarities in the styles of the dresses as well as the garments worn by the newborn children.
“The political scion’s knee-length number was similar in style and color to Kate Middleton’s blue polka dot Jenny Packham dress from when the Duchess made her post-baby debut in July 2013 outside of St. Mary’s Hospital,” reads the post. “Like baby Charlotte, Prince George was also wrapped in white for his debut with his parents.”
And, just like Will and Kate, Chelsea and grandparents Bill and Hillary “stopped to pose for pictures.”
It appears Us Weekly is fishing a little too deep for comparisons between Chelsea and Kate, but perhaps the publication does have a point. Could Chelsea have planned to dress like the British royal to suggest her own royalty? Jimmy Fallon might think so.
During “The Tonight Show” Monday, Fallon joked that Hillary Clinton describes newborn Charlotte as the “third in line to the throne.” He also read a fake letter from royal baby Prince George to Chelsea’s daughter, in which “George” deemed it “pretty cool that my grandma is Queen of England and your grandma wants to be Queen of America.”
Alas, maybe Hillary herself is behind Chelsea’s Middleton-like post-baby attire. Hillary is going to have to get rid of her own pantsuits, though, before anyone dubs her queen of the runway.
