Trump says he’d ‘love’ to talk to Mueller, but wants to be ‘treated fairly’

President Trump said Friday he would “love” to meet with special counsel Robert Mueller, whose work began as an investigation of possible Trump campaign collusion with Russia, but said he wants Mueller to be fair if it happens.

“I would love to speak. Most lawyers say never speak. I would love to speak because we’ve done nothing wrong. There was no collusion with the Russians,” Trump said at the White House ahead of a flight to Texas.

“I would love to speak. I would love to go — nothing I would love to do more because we did nothing wrong,” he added. “But I have to find that we’re going to be treated fairly because everybody sees it now and it is a pure witch hunt.”

Referencing the partisan affiliations of Mueller’s team, who he called “angry Democrats,” he said, “Why don’t we have Republicans looking also? It is a very unfair thing. If I thought it was fair, I would override my lawyers.”

Trump, who has vented for months about the probe of possible collusion with Russia, said, “if you fight back they say it’s obstruction.”
