5 ways the White House wants young people to market Obamacare to their friends

The Obama administration held a youth summit at the White House on Wednesday. During the day, so-called experts gave the young attendees ideas about how to tell their friends about Obamacare.

Here were just some of their ideas.

1. Hosting a happy hour

Are you a bartender? President Barack Obama wants you to host a happy hour on behalf of the Affordable Care Act! POTUS addressed the crowd at Wednesday’s summit, telling them that they should use their assets to spread the world about health coverage.

“If you’re a bartender, have a happy hour,” Obama said, before joking about the profession. “You can also probably get health insurance because a lot of bartenders don’t have it.”

Obamacare? #drink

2. Mass text messaging their friends

Remember the good old days of chain emails and mass text messages? Let’s go back to those times. Anton Gunn, the 2008 Obama campaign political director in South Carolina, recommended sending out the 1-800 number en masse.

“You should share that number with everybody that you know,” Gunn said. “You can text it to them just like you send all those texts on Thanksgiving, telling everybody ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ with a mass text.”

Such a personal way to let your friends know you care about them and their health.

3. Using Macklemore’s social media presence

If you can somehow get the rapper Macklemore to tweet about Obamacare — or retweet your tweets about it — you can reach so many people about the health care law!

“Macklemore is probably way cooler than I am, and probably has more friends on Twitter or Facebook than I do, right?” Rock the Vote National Political Director Amanda Brown told the audience at the summit. “So using his voice, and using more voices, using all of your voices and reaching the audiences that we all have and tapping into our own networks — that’s what going to make the difference here.”

4. DJing

Got a radio show? Use it to talk about health insurance. Aside from bartenders, radio DJs are another profession POTUS thinks would be great at sharing the facts about Obamacare.

“If you’ve got a radio show, spread the word on air,” Obama said.

Sounds like the DJs for Obama will now be the DJs for Obamacare.

5. Stalking

When is the best time to tell your friends about Obamacare? In order to answer these questions, Brown advocated “a mild form of stalking.” Then you will be able to provide your friends with health insurance information right when they need it!

So start trolling your friends’ Twitter and Facebook feeds. Is your friend worried they might have a life-threatening disease? Sounds like a perfect time to tell them about Obamcare!
