After spending months in silence, 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney took to social media on Wednesday to say that he hopes Gary Johnson makes the debate stage this fall against Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
“I hope voters get to see former GOP Governors Gary Johnson and Bill Weld on the debate stages this fall,” Romney tweeted.

While he’s always been against Trump, Romney hasn’t exactly been excited about Johnson either, telling radio host John Dickerson back in June that he didn’t know the former New Mexico governor and didn’t love his position on marijuana.
However, his close connection with Johnson’s vice presidential nominee Bill Weld must have paid of, because it seems like he now supports the Libertarian ticket.
Even though Romney has warmed up to Johnson, the polls have barely moved. The Libertarian nominee hasn’t come close to the 15 percent threshold to enter a national debate in a single poll. According to the Real Clear Politics polling average, Johnson has the support of 8.4 percent of voters.
