GOP candidate wins re-election despite siblings’ ad campaign for opponent

Republican Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., won his re-election campaign Tuesday night, even after six of his siblings released an ad campaign endorsing his Democratic challenger David Brill.

In projections as of election evening, Gosar earned 68 percent of the vote and his opponent earned 31 percent.

The ad campaign launched in September and included six of Gosar’s nine siblings, who condemned and denounced their brother’s stances on the environment, healthcare, and immigration.

In several of the ads, the siblings say it hurts them to have to speak out against their brother, but they feel his conservative positions have torn their family apart.

“It would be difficult to see my brother as anything but a racist,” Gosar’s sibling Grace said in one of the ads.

The campaign named the ads things like “A Family Defends Its Honor” and “Paul Gosar Is Not Working for You.”

Gosar won re-election for his House seat in Arizona’s 4th District in the 2018 midterm elections.
