President Trump’s designated super PAC is preparing a $40 million advertising campaign in five key battleground states, set to begin the day after the commander in chief’s first debate with Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
America First Action is hoping to reduce the spending advantage Biden has enjoyed throughout September by deploying a mixture of television, digital, and direct-mail advertising targeted at media markets in Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and North Carolina. Trump’s super PAC is also investing in Georgia, a usually reliably red state, where the president is running neck and neck with Biden. The former vice president has yet to devote significant resources there.
In a press release, America First Action said its advertising would focus on Biden’s “disastrous economic record” from his tenure as Barack Obama’s deputy in the White House. “Biden oversaw the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression,” the group claimed as it introduced advertising that was scheduled to hit voters in Philadelphia and across Wisconsin on Wednesday.
Following is a breakdown of America First Action’s $40 million ad campaign, an investment that raises its total spending to $106 million since mid-April:
- Florida: $8.7 million in Miami
- Pennsylvania: $18.4 million in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Wilkes Barre/Scranton, Johnstown, and Erie
- Wisconsin: $5.5 million in Milwaukee, La Crosse, and Wausau
- North Carolina: $4.6 million in Raleigh
- Georgia: $2.8 million in Albany, Macon, and Savannah
Biden’s campaign is supported by a constellation of liberal outside groups that are spending tens of millions of dollars to bolster his already flush campaign organization.
