Carly Fiorina insisted Thursday that Ted Cruz’s decision to make her his running mate isn’t a sign of panic, and said Cruz is always “thoughtful” and “deliberative.”
“He doesn’t do anything in a rush [or] in a panic,” Fiorina said when asked on CNN’s “New Day” if the move was a publicity stunt or a distraction.
Cruz made his announcement Wednesday, a day after Donald Trump swept five primary states and mathematically eliminated Cruz from reaching the 1,237 delegates needed to win the nomination.

Fiorina echoed Cruz’s argument that even Trump can’t win the 1,237 delegates at this point, although it’s still a possibility for Trump.
“[Donald] Trump doesn’t have 1,237 delegates — that number represents the majority of the Republican Party,” the former Hewlett-Packard CEO said. “And what has been clear over the course of this election is that the majority of Republicans don’t want Donald Trump as their nominee. Neither do I.”
While Fiorina was on television, Trump tweeted at “Lyin’ Ted Cruz” that he has “no path to victory.”
“Lyin’ Ted Cruz, who can never beat Hillary Clinton and has NO path to victory, has chosen a V.P. candidate who failed badly in her own effort,” Trump said.

In his quest to secure the GOP nomination ahead of the party’s national convention in July, Trump has 987 delegates. Cruz is in second place with 562.
