On today’s show edition of the Dan Patrick Show on DirecTV, Dan’s NBC partner, Tony Dungy, joined the show to discuss the big stories in the NFL. SI.com’s Chris Mannix shared his thoughts on the upcoming NBA playoffs and the Dallas Morning News‘ Jean-Jacques Taylor weighed in on the video of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones criticizing Bill Parcells and saying he wouldn’t draft Tim Tebow because he couldn’t play him. Finally, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, the real McLovin’, discussed his new movie and his love of the Boston Celtics.
Tony Dungy on what Commissioner Goodell will do with Ben Roethlisberger:
“I think he’s going to come down with some type of suspension and I think it’s probably needed.”
Tony Dungy on whether or not Michael Vick thinks he will be traded:
“I don’t think he really knows. I think he assumed that he was before this all took place. I don’t think he foresaw Donovan being traded. So now he feels like I gotta go to work and see if I can go win the job. He feels like people want to win games. If he goes in there and shows that he’s a better quarterback and he gives them a better chance to win, he’ll end up playing. I think that’s the way they’re approaching it, that Kevin Kolb will be the starter.”
Tony Dungy on Rex Ryan bringing in players with questionable character:
“I’d be a little concerned if I was a Jets personnel person right now.”
Tony Dungy on the Dolphins trading for Brandon Marshall:
“I think Parcells kind of likes guys like that. Brandon Marshall’s similar to a Keyshawn Johnson – good players with maybe some quirks in their personality.”
Tony Dungy on being careful what to say as a head coach leading up to NFL Draft:
“I always try to be vague and speak in general terms. I’ll say he’s a good player. . I’m not going to tell you if we’re going to pick someone or where. I always tried not to say very much.”
Tony Dungy on the Eagles sending Donovan McNabb to Redskins:
“You’re not helping your division rival. The Eagles either have questions about McNabb or they don’t view the Redskins as a threat.”
Tony Dungy on Big Ben’s future behavior in Pittsburgh:
“He can’t put himself in that situation anymore. He’s the face of the franchise.”
Jean-Jacques Taylor on whether he would have aired the Jerry Jones video:
“Yep. I wouldn’t have aired it if he just made the Tim Tebow comments. But when you think about the stadium, which was a story unto itself, and Parcells comments – I think there’s some news value there.”
Jean-Jacques Taylor on whether or not he misses Jessica Simpson dating Tony Romo:
“No, no, my friend. I was sick and tired of that story. I’m ready for some new drama. That’s what was fun about T.O.”
Chris Mannix on the airing of Jerry Jones’ comments about Bill Parcells and Tim Tebow:
“It’s always assumed to me if you’re out in a social setting and having drinks and dinner and talking about stuff, maybe you can use it as background but not quote the guy. You don’t use it. Definitely not. Any serious journalist would not use that as a part of their story.”
Chris Mannix on Kobe and the Lakers getting ready to stop Kevin Durant:
“I think Kobe will take a lot of pride in locking this guy down during stretches. Ron Artest will feel the same way, as well as all the Lakers defenders to shut down the NBA’s best scorer.”
Chris Mannix on whether the NBA should do something for fans who miss out on seeing star players in action late in season:
“I agree that you can’t make the players play. If you want to give the fans some kind of incentive, some kind of rebate, free parking, a voucher for a game – I’d agree with that. But I’m in the camp where it’s not that big a deal.”
Chris Mannix on Butler’s Gordon Hayward declaring for NBA Draft:
“I think it’s a mistake. I think he’ll be a top 20 pick, but he’s better off staying.”
Christopher Mintz-Plasse, what posters do you have hanging in your room:
“I’ve got Reservoir Dogs, Black Sabbath, and a memory from the set of Super Bad hanging up too.”
Christopher Mintz-Plasse on when it stopped being cool to live at home with your parents:
“Three years ago. I’m saving money by still being here.”
Christopher Mintz-Plasse on how he feels about the Celtics:
“We’ve been looking not too well but I bleed green, I guess. I have faith they can do it in the playoffs.”
Christopher Mintz-Plasse on his mother watching his pretend sex scene in Super Bad:
“Yes. She had to be there. It was illegal to do a fake sex scene if you’re under age. She had to watch her son do the dirty deed.”
Christopher Mintz-Plasse on how comfortable he feels out in public:
“I’m uncomfortable when cell phones are shoved in your face and your personal space is invaded. But that’s the price you pay when you’re in a movie.”
