Bouncing between college and the pros

Back here once more at the Verizon Center — where I’m not the only one thinking about setting up a cot for the late nights — I’m going to add something to the rotation that speaks to my shared responsbilities of covering both the Wizards and a few of our area college basketball teams, mainly Georgetown.

I’m a new voter this year in the Associated Press college hoops polll, so I’ve just filed my third top 25 of the season. Rather than wait for the aggregate results to get posted this afternoon, I’ll start posting my ballot here. Remember, this is an imperfect science, and thankfully, unlike in college football, my vote won’t determine who ends the season as the national champion — it’ll be decided by the players.

So here we go, my latest top 25 and a few outsiders:

1. Kansas (5-0)

2. Kentucky (6-0)

3. Villanova (6-0)

4. Texas (5-0)

5. Purdue (5-0)

6. West Virginia (5-0)

7. Duke (6-0)

8. Tennessee (5-1)

9. Washington (5-0)

10. Syracuse (6-0)

11. North Carolina (6-1)

12. Connecticut (4-1)

13. Michigan State (5-1)

14. Ohio State (5-1)

15. Texas A&M (5-1)

16. Clemson (6-1)

17. Gonzaga (5-1)

18. Florida (6-0)

19. Memphis (3-1)

20. Georgetown (4-0)

21. Portland (5-1)

22. Minnesota (4-2)

23. Butler (4-2)

24. Cincinnati (4-1)

25. Florida State (6-1)

Stragglers, for now, in no particular order: Ole Miss (5-1), Marquette (6-1), Wisconsin (4-1), Oklahoma State (6-0), Georgia Tech (4-1), Louisville (4-1), Montana (4-2), Vanderbilt (4-1), Miami (FL) (7-0), Alabama (4-2).

Bring on the love!

back later with Wizards and Georgetown…
