Kanye West thrown off Ohio presidential ballot after signature petitions deemed illegitimate

Rapper-turned-presidential candidate Kanye West will not appear on the Ohio ballot in November following a ruling by the state’s Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court voted 7-0 to affirm signature errors found in ballot petitions submitted by his campaign. The ruling upholds a decision made by Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose in August, which determined that information on petition ballots circulated by the campaign did not match the original documents filed with the state.

“A signature is the most basic form of authentication and an important, time-honored, security measure to ensure that a candidate aspires to be on the ballot and that a voter is being asked to sign a legitimate petition,” LaRose said. “There is no doubt that the West nominating petition and declaration of candidacy failed to meet the necessary threshold for certification.”

West was thrown off the Arizona ballot on Tuesday after the state’s Supreme Court ruled that electors for West’s campaign did not accurately represent their names or political affiliations.

West is set to appear as an independent presidential candidate on several ballots, including those in Mississippi, Idaho, and Oklahoma.
