After a three year partnership with CBS Radio 105.7FM the Baltimore Orioles will be heading back home to WBAL 1090AM.
So when you add the Orioles, the Ravens and Navy football WBAL quickly becomes Baltimore’s sports station.
Interesting since WBAL is billed as Maryland’s top news and talk station.
The Ravens will be on 98Rock while the Orioles will be on WBAL 1090AM for the regular season. Once baseball is over they will air the Ravens just like they have the past three years.
You can bet that the Ravens who have one more year on this deal had a say in adding the O’s.
Keeping Baltimore’s top franchise happy will be job one at WBAL/98Rock.
But WBAL would not have added the Orioles if they were not confident that they could keep both teams happy.
So the gang at WBAL will have a year to convince both that being together is a good plan.
The team employs the game broadcasters Joe Angel and Fred Manfra so they will be calling the action.
Brett Hollander will be the new pregame host with “On Deck” the new pre-game show and you can bet that Keith Mills will be involved with the pre and post game shows.
There is a good chance that because of the volumn of work of having two teams that the station could be adding some staff, we will see.
WBAL and the Orioles have a long history the relationship lasted 41 of their 57 seasons the team has been in Baltimore.
You can expect that the Orioles players will show up on 105.7 The Fan, FOX Sports Radio 1370AM and WNST 1570AM as now promotion of the team on all area stations will become important.
But what did 105.7FM The Fan do wrong?
In a word – Nothing….
The relationship between 106.7FM The Fan and the Orioles seemed to be a good one. There were plenty of Orioles talk, players, mangers and front office people showed up on all of their day time shows.
They seemed to be a good fit but sometimes things are not what they seem.
