Trump Jr. shares 2019 Oscars predictions: Swipes at the president, walls, and socialism

Donald Trump Jr. offered his followers on Twitter a prediction of what to expect on the 91st Academy Awards show Sunday evening.

“I’ll save you guys the trouble & summarize the #Oscars so you don’t have to watch,” Trump Jr. said.

On his checklist? Lots of politics.

“Trump: bad, despite booming economy & lowest black/Hispanic unemployment ever,” President Trump’s eldest son said.

“Walls: Immoral, except outside our houses,” he added. “Socialism: Pay no attention to mayhem in Venezuela, let’s give it a try.”

In recent years, the Oscars, along with other awards shows, have been overtly political. Whether it be in jokes by the host or members of the entertainment business using the stage as a platform to speak their minds about current events, much of the commentary has been critical of Trump and his administration.

Trump shot back with a joke last year about being a star while he mocked the 2018 Academy Awards hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, a frequent critic of the president, for its record-low ratings. “Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY. Problem is, we don’t have Stars anymore – except your President (just kidding, of course)!” he wrote in a tweet.

This year’s show is set to air from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. The show won’t have a host this year for the first time in 30 years after comedian Kevin Hart bailed on the gig when some of his old homophobic tweets were revealed, meaning the host’s opening monologue, often peppered with political jabs, will be dropped from the program.
