Poll: Sanders has huge lead among young Wis. voters

Bernie Sanders has once led fellow Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in a poll of likely Democratic primary voters in Wisconsin released late Thursday.

Sanders leads Clinton by five points, 48 percent to 43 percent, respectively. The Vermont senator owes his victory to young voters and men, according to the Fox News Business survey taken March 28-30. The poll’s results come with a 3 percent margin of error and are comparable to others that have been conducted in this week.

Among voters under the age of 45, Sanders racked up 69 percent of supporters while the former secretary of state received 22 percent of support.

Men in all age categories overwhelmingly picked Sanders over Clinton. A net 55 percent of men sided with Sanders and 36 percent chose Clinton.

“Age is a significantly more powerful driver of the vote than gender among Wisconsin Democrats and this dynamic is what is fueling Sanders’ edge,” Daron Shaw, who helped conduct the Fox Business Network Poll, said in a statement. “When you’re the front-runner and you can barely draw one out of five younger voters, you’ve got problems.”

Clinton snagged a win among win, but not by much, 47 percent ot 44 percent over Sanders. But Sanders stole young women from Clinton, 66 percent to 28 percent, respectively.

A victory for Sanders in next Saturday’s primary contest would make the Democratic socialist six for seven in recent contests.
